The Photography Show: "Colored Images"

The Photography Show: “Colored Images”

Sep 3, 2024 – Oct 27, 2024Not long ago, the debate wasn’t about whether AI “art” was art but whether color photography was art. William Eggleston’s 1976 exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, Color Photographs by William Eggleston, settled that debate. It was. It is.

Michael White: "Time Spans"

Michael White: “Time Spans”

Jul 9, 2024 – Sep 12, 2024“I remember as a child how certain household objects – tools in the basement, a desktop cigarette lighter, an antique eggbeater – held fascination because I saw their form before I understood their function. They were distinctive, inevitable, seeming like a species of animal or plant. Abandoned or ancient buildings are similarly potent – with their functionality gone, their pure form and character emerge. While nature reclaims them, they enter a new state combining their once-thriving older selves and the oblivion that awaits all things. Their being takes a last stand in the gulf of time, where beauty and sadness ensue.

Jane Kleiman: Sculptural Ceramics

Jane Kleiman: Sculptural Ceramics

Apr 30, 2024 – Jul 1, 2024JANE KLEIMAN has been working with clay since 1998. In addition to traditional, functional ware, she works with alternative firing techniques, such as Raku, pit fire, and Saggar Fire. All pieces are one-of-a-kind, often hand-built or thrown and/or altered. Because alternative firing techniques are low fired, the clay remains porous and fragile, and therefore non-functional for food or liquid.

Mark Harari: Luminosities - Painting Without Walls

Mark Harari: Luminosities – Painting Without Walls

May 3, 2024 – Jul 1, 2024When Mr. Harari was an architect in New York and New Jersey from 1983 – 2003, he wasn’t thinking about a fine art practice. Until he was. When he turned to create fine art, he explored painting, drawing, printmaking, and photography. In 2009, after initial hesitations about digital photography, he jumped in and found more than expected. “The digital revolution intimidated me at first. I intended to use the camera to support my pursuit of painting, to aid my understanding of color as a painter rather than an architect. The act of photographing, again, opened me to the magic power of place and the fleeting mysteries of the moment. The camera is a wonderful tool to heighten perception and awareness – the act of focus. City, street, timeless ruin, sunlit stream, fleeting, momentary shadows, and reflections are all there for me,” said Mark.

Geanna Merola: Window Works – The Bowery

Jun 3, 2022 – Jul 5, 2022For 17 years I enjoyed having an apartment on Elizabeth Street, in Manhattan. I eventually found my way down to the lighting district, an area of the Bowery between Kenmare and Grand streets. There I recorded the dream-like imagery of hanging crystal lamps visible through the large glass panes. I continued to photograph on this stretch of the city for about the next ten years.
