Not long ago, the debate wasn’t about whether AI “art” was art but whether color photography was art. William Eggleston’s 1976 exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, Color Photographs by William Eggleston, settled that debate. It was. It is.
Colored Images explores the use of color by seven photographers. Each photographer shoots a range of subjects. For this exhibit, images exploring the natural world by Danielle Austen, Gary Steven Groves, and Anne Knife have been selected. Robert P. Langdon, Joe Rabcow, and Dug Smith represent various human environments, such as amusement park rides and flea markets. Martta Kelly’s images span both.
How these photographers employ color ranges from the whisper-soft tints of Anne Knife’s “Sun Series” to the bold and slightly surreal color of Dug Smith’s “Flea Market” images. With the Diana camera images of Gary Steven Groves, the photos are blurred but naturalistic.
