An art exhibit featuring the work of Annette Margulies, Tyrrell Masse, Edy Ottesen and Leona Tenebruso-Shultes – will open at The Oyster Point Hotel in Red Bank, NJ on Thursday, July 12th, 2018 from 6 – 8 p.m. It is a free reception, open to the public and everyone is warmly welcome to attend.
These artists started exhibiting together in 2009 when after having co-chaired an art demonstration at the Monmouth Festival of the Arts at the Monmouth Reform Temple, Tyrrell Masse and Leona Tenebruso-Shultes started a focus group to connect women artists who were interested in innovative ways to promote and sell their art.
The group was determined to continue exhibiting in both established and alternate venues including their own homes, model home communities, builders’ models, hi-rise lobbies and Decorator Show Homes. Tyrrell Masse in particular played an important role in finding these spaces. All of these artists are still making valuable contributions to the Monmouth County art community by continuing to exhibit their work as often as possible.
This dedication to finding exhibition spaces is critical because as Stacey AS Pritchard says in the foreword to the catalog: “ . . .women artists did not always find venues for this work. Many of the accomplished female abstract artists of the past were often only seen through their relationships to the more dominant male artists of the time.”
